To get here

To get to the Hostel: From points south and west from Interstate 95, take Rt 3 from Augusta, which combines with Rt 15 in Bucksport. Turn right keeping on Rt 15 in Orland at the Big Apple store. Rt 15 continues through Blue Hill and over the bridge to Deer Isle. After roughly 5.5 miles you’ll pass through Deer Isle village. Keep on Rt 15 and just past the village, look for the Hostel sign, which will direct you to Sunshine Road (opposite Irving Gas station). Pay attention as the road takes a sharp right after 1,5 miles. After 2.7 miles, turn right onto Tennis Road where the Hostel is.

In general, driving here can be slower than expected. The roads are winding and narrow and often the traffic is heavy in the summer. The nearest airport is in Bangor, about 2 hours away. Portland, ME and Boston airport are other options. There is no public transport to or on the island.
From Boston, estimate 5,5-6 h driving time. From Portland 3,5-4h, from Bucksport, an hour+. If you choose to go the more scenic Rt 1 up the coast, travel time will be considerably longer.

Many of our guests choose to visit Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island while staying at the Hostel. While only 50 miles away, the traffic can be thick and congested and driving surprisingly slow.
